Brand Chosen: Kordal - Contemporary knitwear designer Mandy Kordal. This mission statement is pulled from her website. I have also included some of her past collections and detailing for inspiration.
What can I bring to the label? Though her knits are zero waste, her cut and sewn are not quite there yet. I think I could explore this aspect a little more through some woven looks. I'm not very experienced in this and think it would be a good challenge. I can also incorporate more craft through hand knit garments and possibly accessories.
Future Trend Big Ideas - A Purposeful Movement
This trend focuses on sustainability and the idea every product should have a purpose. I think that can be achieved by making timeless quality pieces that will last a lifetime. Time should be spent on the craft and techniques used to ensure the best quality products.
Sub-Trend - Economic Nutrition. Like a food nutrition label this idea encourages companies to be transparent with their company and what goes into their garments. I think the brand I am looking at does this quite well. From including a mission statement on the website to including a description of fiber content and where the item was made on each clothing item in their shop.
For my collection I was inspired by simple ideas and living - sort of a 'day in the life of' my muse. I would like to focus on soft and natural colors to match with simple silhouettes. I am using this project in conjunction with my knitwear design class so I think my collection will mainly focus on knitwear with some wovens mixed in. Since This collection is focused more on sustainability I would like to play around with the concept of little to no waste when it comes to my pieces. To go along with my brand, my knit pieces will be fairly simple - machine knit swatches along with some hand knit textures sticking to simple, flat colors. I am still working on the knit swatches so I will be posting them next week.
